Procedural Skills for Emergency Medicine

 

Overview

A one-day course offering a mixture of practical skills stations. This is a very hands-on course with the opportunity to learn and practise many skills we don’t often get the chance to perform in our daily work.

This is an excellent opportunity for Emergency Physicians, Registrars and other medical practitioners to refresh and update their skills. It is suitable for practitioners in Emergency Medicine and Rural Medicine.

Procedures Covered

  • Advanced IV Access / intraosseus insertion

  • Chest drains / thoracotomy

  • Resuscitative hysterotomy

  • External pacing, pacing wires and pericardiocentesis

  • Advanced airway management, including needle cricothyrotomy and jet insufflation; surgical cricothyrotomy; management of blocked tracheostomy tube

  • Lateral canthotomy
